Fighting for California's student
loan borrowers
Since 2019, more than 80 organizations have joined the Campaign for California Borrowers’ Rights to fight for student loan borrowers across the state. We passed the Student Loan Borrower Bill of Rights, prevented transcript withholding by California colleges, and stopped predatory debt collection in California courts.
But our work is not done yet.
Each year, more and more Californians take on debt to fund their education. Millions of Californians now struggle under these debts, whether they are loans from the federal government or a bank, or debts owed directly to a school.
Too often, these debts result in deferred dreams, lost savings, and limited opportunities. The Campaign for California Borrowers’ Rights is working with federal, state, and local policymakers to fight for the rights of California borrowers.
Join us in tackling the institutional debt crisis
We are proud cosponsors of The Protecting Students from Creditor Colleges Act (AB 1160) which would protect Californians from economic harm caused by a lesser-known type of student debt: institutional debt owed to schools directly.
We believe that no student should be barred from pursuing or completing their higher education due to institutional debt and that California's higher education institutions must stop being creditor colleges.
Join us in our campaign to support AB 1160 and protect borrowers across the state.
